Elsick House Wedding
I am so excited to finally share Kelsey & Iain’s autumnal Elsick House Wedding. Get ready for lots of scrolling – this blog post is super picture heavy! It was all just too beautiful to not to share! It’s been long awaited one: I first met Kelsey & Iain almost two years ago, when Iain reached out to me to secretly capture his surprise proposal. Read the full story of that magical day when Kelsey was caught completely off guard & with a bag of Nespresso in her hand here: Kelsey & Iain’s Surprise Wedding Proposal in Edinburgh.
Elsick House in Aberdeenshire
So that’s when the wedding planning started… They soon found the venue of their dreams in Elsick House. The privately owned home is an exclusive use wedding venue with incredibly cosy interior and large marquee. It is the perfect combination of homely & relaxed and elegant & representative. Located within its extensive grounds in Aberdeenshire, it’s just a stone throw from Stoneheaven. (If this doesn’t ring a bell, you might be more familiar with the famous Dunnotar Castle sitting on the cliffs just outside of this cute little coastal town – which is by the way perfect a place where to elope in Scotland.)
The Wedding Day
The bridal party and closest family arrived the day before to spend the whole weekend at the Elsick House. They woke up into relaxed wedding morning full of anticipation. Bridesmaids and groomsmen got ready in separate wings of the house. And with the help of my second shooter, I was running up and down the stairs, trying to not get lost in all the rooms and stairwells, capturing all the little details and moments full of anticipation.
Then the sound of bagpipes filled the air and the guests started arriving to be greeted by the Groom and seated in the marquee. Soon after Kelsey descends the main stairwell in the house to be greeted by her Dad and bridesmaids and is walked down the aisle to“From this Moment” by Shania Twain. What follows is a ceremony full of wit and laughter and emotions. As you could expect from such a fun loving couple. The new Mr & Mrs are piped out of the marquee for a confetti shot in front of the house.
A gorgeous Mustang Shelby 1965 awaits them in front of the Elsick House. Large group photo follows together with family formals while everyone enjoys drinks and canapés. After they got to relax a bit we left for couple of newlywed pictures just within the gardens. Alongside with guys of Papermill Designs who were capturing the whole day on video. Autumnal Wedding Decor Inspiration
The whole day was styled into gorgeous autumnal colour palette. With the main colour of burgundy and a lot of foliage and gentle greens, with orange pumpkins, warm candles and cozy blankets.
The marquee was beautifully decorated with the help of Robins Egg who set up whisky table and provided chalkboards and easels for fun signs. All of those masterfully hand lettered and drawn by Amy Singer. Just Vintage Hire provided their rustic wedding vintage furniture goodness with props, beer barrows, wooden logs and vintage rugs. Two ladders were suspended from the ceiling of the marquee and decorated with foliage and candle lights.
Kelsey & Iain had a DIY birch wood ladder wedding arch with draped burgundy fabric on top of it and gorgeous floral arrangements by Flower Vogue Aberdeen in vibrant burgundy and green. Fun fact: They knew they wanted an arch like this and planned a major DIY… But then a previous couple left this one at the venue for re-use. And it was just perfect!
The table setting was gin themed with little DIY bottles of gin as wedding favours. The centre pieces were all different gin bottles with florals on wooden blocks. With different gin name for different table reflected in the hand drawn seating plan. A notable mention also goes to a gorgeous and original Wedding Cheese cake.
Surprise Performance: Singing Waiters – Singers Secreto
Gorgeous wedding reception followed with Kelsey & Iain being piped to the table. But just before the dessert as everyone was mingling about… Suddenly a waiter fell to the ground with the rumble of forks and knives on a metal tray. Everyone went a bit quiet and people closest to him went to help him… Just to see him jump up and start singing. This was surprise performance which Kelsey got for Iain and as you can see from his expression, she got him! And Singers Secreto did an amazing show!
The autumnal sun set as everybody was enjoying their meal. Unnoticed, the rose arch lit up in the gardens to make the atmosphere even more magical. The wedding cheese cake was cut and the Highway Band started playing for Kelsey & Iain’s first dance and the party kicked off.
Goodbyes and final night time newlywed photos in the rose arch
During the band’s break we went out to take couple final portraits and say our goodbyes. It was the most gorgeous day and I am truly honoured I could be there for Kelsey & Iain to capture it and be part of their story in this way. I am thankful to my second shooter for catching this moment and getting me a rare photo with the newlyweds! I am already looking forward to catch up and capture their future adventures! <3
Elsick House Wedding Photography Review: Kind Words from Kelsey & Iain
“Anna has shared so many special moments with us, from our surprise engagement right through to our wedding day. She is so amazingly talented at what she does, but she is also so fun and lovely to be around! We felt like we were hanging out with a friend the whole day and we wouldn’t have had it any other way! She has a lovely laid back and relaxed approach, which is so helpful on your wedding day. Thank you so much for everything over the last 2 years! Simply a brilliant service and experience.”
